About Mark Deeks is a singer-songwriter born and living in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England. Whilst he has been involved in a vast range of musical styles and projects from metal to classical throughout his career, his solo acoustic-based material has been compared to artists as diverse as Frank Black, Devin Townsend, Seth Lakeman, Tenhi and Alice in Chains. Whilst a specialist piano and keyboard player, Mark also plays guitar, viola, and has also started to dabble on Irish bouzouki! An album to be titled “Safesake” has been put on hold at the moment due to other commitments, but rest assured will see the light of day eventually! Thanks to everyone who keeps asking about it - I promise I'll finish it one day!

Arranging Mark has also gathered a huge amount of experience in arranging a large range of other people’s musical projects. This has included working with bands of young musicians on shows in all kinds of styles in his day job, to working with several a cappella vocal groups. However, his biggest success was conceiving a project that involved Tony Kakko, vocalist of Finnish metal stars Sonata Arctica, performing his arrangements at The Sage Gateshead with an orchestra and a choir of over 300 singers in April 2008. Over 3,500 people witnessed the results and gave a rapturous reception. Check out the Music page to hear a rough recording.

He has also, on request, been contributing arrangements for the new 320 strong Inspiration choir at The Sage Gateshead, backed by the Northern Sinfonia. These have so far included "Walking in Memphis", "Streets of Philadelphia", and a particularly dramatic version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" which received a rapturous response!
